One thing that you must attend while visiting the beautiful majestic islands of Hawaii is a traditonal luau. A luau normally consists of a large feast and live entertainment including hula dancers and Polynesian entertainment.

 

In preperation for the luau those who will do the cooking begin preparing the feast early on the day the luau is expected to take place. A huge pit is dug into the beach or sand. Next Kiawe logs are then placed inside of the pit and later topped with river rocks. A fire is then started on the rocks to create hot rocks and hot coals. The rocks will then be evened out near the bottom of the pit and moistened banana stalks will be placed on top followed by another layer of banana leaves for the pig to be placed on.

Wet burlap bags may be used to add team and keep the heat packed inside. The final step is when a large tarp is placed over the pit which will be covered in sand.
